Threshold Organic Cotton Printed Sheet Set

Threshold Organic Cotton Printed Sheet Set

Target’s Threshold Organic Cotton Printed option is a popular style that comes in beautiful prints in a 300 thread count. They are deep enough they should fit mattresses up to 18″ and they have double elastic on the corners of the fitted sheets, so they stay on well.

Along with GOTS certification (GOTS certified, is a global standard to ensure any product labeling itself organic is free of chemicals and potentially harmful substances), they are also Oeko-Tex certified for no toxic substances. These are a great alternative to solid color designs, with patterns that are subtle yet pretty.

They aren’t quite as soft as some sheets that you can buy, but that is pretty common with organic cotton since it doesn’t include synthetic materials in the fabric blend, which is often what makes some fabric really soft. Like most cotton options, they will get softer the more you wash them. One thing to note about this Target set is that it includes the handy feature of a tag on the fitted sheet showing which sides are the top and bottom. If you are looking for bedding that is light, breathable, and durable, check out this pick.

Pinzon 300 Thread Count Organic Cotton Bed Sheet Set

Pinzon 300 Thread Count Organic Cotton Bed Sheet Set

This Pinzon Organic Cotton Sheet Set is made of 100% organic cotton that is GOTS certified, and you can find it on Amazon. The set is known for being comfortable, durable, and for coming in a great variety of colors to suit almost any decor. The 300-thread count has a pleasant feel to it that is both soft and crisp.

The stand-out feature of this design is the strong, thick one inch wide elastic around the entire fitted bottom to ensure that it stays in place. The only downside to this style is since they are all cotton, they are pretty wrinkled coming out of the dryer. You are going to find this with pretty much any organic fabric that you buy. 100% cotton will wrinkle out the dryer so you can iron it or put it on your bed right out of the dryer and try to smooth out the wrinkles.  Most reviews mention that they are durable, well made, and an excellent choice, especially for the price.

L.L. Bean Organic Flannel Collection

L.L. Bean Organic Flannel Collection

L.L. Bean never disappoints with their sheets. They are always a popular option in the various sheet categories. Where they really shine is with their flannel, from their P.J.s to their shirts, L.L. Bean’s flannel clothes are tough to compete with as far as softness, warmth, and durability. It isn’t a surprise that the flannel sheets are also wonderful.

Apart from the high-quality organic flannel, the design is great because they fit and stay on most mattress really well. The flannel is, of course, GOTs and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification, so you can be assured that they are safe against your skin. Like all of the best cotton, these will get softer with every wash and will last for years. The flannel is 5 oz. which is a medium weight material, so it is possible to use them year-round if you live in a moderate climate or you like to go heavy on the A.C.

Organics Dream Collection

Organics Dream Collection

This Organics Dream Collection Sheet Set is a sateen option that is 100% cotton that bears the GOTS label. This is another fabric that is soft, yet substantial, and durable. Like other sets, they soften up after a wash or two. Also, like the sateen set listed above, they will keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter because of the thickness. They claim to fit deep pockets, but some reviewers have mentioned this is not the case for their situation.

What to Look For:

Certification– To ensure that the bedding you are buying is organic, you will want to ensure it has been certified. The certification that you will want to look for is GOTS, which is the Global Organic Textile Standard. It is an internationally recognized textile standard that certifies natural fibers are grown and produced under standards regarding the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. It also ensures manufacturers are using sustainable manufacturing and labeling.

What is the difference between the Standard 100 OEKO-TEX and GOTS?

The Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX is monitoring how a fabric is processed and grades it on it’s exposure to harmful chemicals, while the GOTS certification means that the raw materials of the fabric products are grown according to strict guidelines on the use of fertilizers, pesticides, and synthetic products. To achieve Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, the fabric is tested and certified to be free from harmful levels of more than 100 substances that are known to be dangerous, it is a global standard that is voluntary, and it must be updated annually.

Pocket Depth– If you have a very deep mattress, you will need to check that the pocket depth of the fitted sheet in any set you are buying will be large enough to fit your bed.

Wrinkles– One of the biggest complaints about almost all of the organic options listed above is that they come out of the dryer very wrinkled. If you don’t like wrinkly sheets, you will have to iron your 100% cotton bedding. The bedding that doesn’t wrinkle tends to be non-natural fibers like polyester.  For most people, the negative of the wrinkles is outweighed by the positive health benefits of using organic.

Softness- Sometimes, 100% cotton sets aren’t the softest when you first get them, so sometimes people are a little disappointed and promptly return the product. Generally, organic cotton softens up with time, and with laundering.
